4 May 2014

May the 4th be with you.

Most of you would know I'm a massive Batman fan. However, I've have only started showing that in recent years and then neglected Star Wars for a while. I stopped talking about it, but what I did not stop is loving it. Today is May the 4th and I wish to share with you a story from my childhood.

When I was about seven to eight years old I remember running into Toys R Us every time my mum took me to Parramatta. I ran to the Star Wars section and picked up this box with Darth Vader and Darth Maul. It was a figure that stood about thirty centimetres tall. Darth Vader had a removable mask and Darth Maul was a two piece figure with his body split into two like how he was sliced by Obi Wan in the prequels. I would beg my mum to buy it. It was a boy's dream to have such an expensive yet awesome figure, but she didn't. She simply told me that it was too expensive and that I had enough toys at home. And literally, I did. I had plenty of toys when I was younger. More than what my sister had when she turned my age. I was a spoilt kid... and probably still am.

It was only about this time last year in 2013 that I started collecting 1/6th scale figures. Ever since I was young I wanted this figure at this size, but in my mother's eyes they were overpriced and she still sees them that way. I do too. But they bring me joy, knowing that I own a piece of history, especially if the figure is iconic.

This year I received one of the many figures I have bought. I value this piece more than any other, even my quarter scale beast of a Batman. I bring to you Darth Vader; A fallen Jedi and leader of the 501st Legion brought to by Sideshow Collectibles.

This figure is beyond words. The detail and precision put into the crafting of this figures blows any other Star Wars figures there are out in the market at the moment.

There is light up function on the utility belt and control panel as well as ten different hand gestures for various looks when posing.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

He also comes with an unmasked head sculpt which has been sculpted beautifully and painted extremely well by the sculptors and painters of Sideshow. Sideshow Collectibles have sure come a long since their early production of Star Wars figures. No longer are we getting head sculpts that do not have the likeness of the actors, and the cheap materials used for their clothing.

If you're interested in purchasing this figure Popcultcha is currently having a 20% off sale on all things Star Wars. You can get Darth Vader for only $277.99 as they are celebrating May the 4th. The sale ends at 9am Monday 5th of May. If you miss out, you'll be paying the full price at $359.99.
