Most of you would know I'm a massive Batman fan. However, I've have only started showing that in recent years and then neglected Star Wars for a while. I stopped talking about it, but what I did not stop is loving it. Today is May the 4th and I wish to share with you a story from my childhood.
When I was about seven to eight years old I remember running into Toys R Us every time my mum took me to Parramatta. I ran to the Star Wars section and picked up this box with Darth Vader and Darth Maul. It was a figure that stood about thirty centimetres tall. Darth Vader had a removable mask and Darth Maul was a two piece figure with his body split into two like how he was sliced by Obi Wan in the prequels. I would beg my mum to buy it. It was a boy's dream to have such an expensive yet awesome figure, but she didn't. She simply told me that it was too expensive and that I had enough toys at home. And literally, I did. I had plenty of toys when I was younger. More than what my sister had when she turned my age. I was a spoilt kid... and probably still am.
It was only about this time last year in 2013 that I started collecting 1/6th scale figures. Ever since I was young I wanted this figure at this size, but in my mother's eyes they were overpriced and she still sees them that way. I do too. But they bring me joy, knowing that I own a piece of history, especially if the figure is iconic.
This year I received one of the many figures I have bought. I value this piece more than any other, even my quarter scale beast of a Batman. I bring to you Darth Vader; A fallen Jedi and leader of the 501st Legion brought to by Sideshow Collectibles.
